From spreadsheet to scanning in four steps

1

Export or prepare your spreadsheet

Use your existing Excel/CSV file, an export from another inventory app, or our free template.

2

Upload and map columns

Match your columns to StockZip fields — names do not need to match, and custom fields are supported.

3

Review the preview

Rows are validated before import. Fix anything flagged, or import the clean rows and handle stragglers later.

4

Confirm and go live

Items, quantities, and locations are created in one pass. Print labels for anything unlabeled and start scanning.

Switching from another app? Follow the migration guides for Sortly, BoxHero, inFlow, and Fishbowl.

Why export matters more than import

Every inventory vendor demos the import. The honest test is the exit: can you get all of your data back out, in a format a spreadsheet can read, without a support ticket? In StockZip the answer is yes on every plan — items with quantities, locations, prices, and custom fields, plus full movement history and reports, exported as CSV whenever you want. Data you cannot leave with is data you do not own.

That policy also makes evaluation risk-free: import your real inventory, run it for two weeks on the self-serve demo, and if StockZip is not the fit, export and walk away whole.

Import and export questions

File formats, column mapping, updating existing items, and getting your data out.

Upload your .xlsx or .csv file in Settings → Bulk Import, map your columns to StockZip fields (name, SKU, quantity, location, price, barcode, and custom fields), review the preview, and confirm. The importer validates rows before anything is created, so formatting problems surface in the preview instead of corrupting your data. Most teams have their full item list live in under fifteen minutes.
